Biography

William Nelson Pope born in Belleville, Ontario, in 1952 into a caring family of various challenges and disabilities. Started art training at Quinte Secondary School , Belleville, Studies With Carl Heywood, Chris Williams, others. Attended O.C.A.(D.), Toronto, studied drawing and painting with Gordon Raynor, Graham Coughtrey, muti-media with Denis Pike.

 I worked and was mentored in photography with Murray Mosher, Justin Wonnacott, Bob Anderson, in the 1970's. Sold slide show "Dupes" to the NFB still photo division. Was a founding member of Gallery 101 collective in Ottawa. Did commercial art and graphics in 1980's to support my art. Entered into treatmant for depression, hypertension, and alcoholism in 1991 in Victoria, B.C. and have worked since then in support of persons with disabilities in the arts. Lived in Vancouver,B.C. since 2000 where I joined Gallery Gachet Collective in 2002.

I have been drawing and painting in acrylics and oils for 40 years and am represented in collections everywhere I've lived. I work simultaneously in several styles. I am currently working with partially recycled paint: acrylics on glass. My work in photography has largly been allied to my graphic arts practise which I reprise to achieve certain emotional responses. Other interests: music, poetry, journaling, art therepy, history, collecting, and cleaning. I have a 22 year old son. I'm not continuing to be concerned about what I aught to be. I choose what is important and strive for it.
